History

The Echuca Hotel is set in the heart of the famous Port of Echuca Precinct, overlooking the Campaspe River, and only a short stroll to the mighty Murray River.

The Echuca Hotel as it is today was built in 1874 by Thomas Mitchell, replacing an earlier building which was originally Mitchell’s butcher shop. Mitchell’s intention was to provide opposition to the Bridge Hotel, then being built by his rival Henry Hopwood, the founder of Echuca.
The Hotel was opened in September 1858, six months before the Bridge Hotel, with a second storey added in 1874.

Today, the Echuca Hotel is owned and operated by
David & Ann Connally since December 2003.
